Alps Electric ontwikkelt DVB-H TV-tuner "TDP series" en instelbare antenne "BDM series"

( BW)(ALPS-ELECTRIC)(APELY) Alps Electric Developed DVB-H TV Tuner
Module ''TDP series'' and Tunable Antenna ''BDM series''

    TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 9, 2006--Alps Electric (Pink
Sheet:APELY) has completed development of a Digital Video Broadcasting
for Handheld (DVB-H) TV tuner module "TDP series" and tunable antenna
"BDM series" intended for use in small mobile devices including mobile
phones in Europe and North America. Sample shipments will commence in
December this year.
Terrestrial digital broadcasts for handheld devices are also about
to start in Europe and the United States.
Alps Electric has led the industry by pioneering the development
of the DVB-H TV tuner module. Utilizing the high-density mounting
technologies, Alps has developed a thin and compact tuner module
(14.0mm wide x 14.0mm deep x 1.5mm high). The tuner has an integral
filter to restrict the mobile phone's transmission frequency and make
it possible to receive both mobile phone communications and television
broadcasts. The mobile phone frequency band is thus prevented from
disrupting the DVB-H broadcast frequency band, making excellent
audiovisual reception possible.
A tunable antenna that can be used in conjunction with the tuner
has also been developed. The antenna receives control voltage from the
tuner module and the voltage changes the capacity of an integrated
varactor diode(a). As a result, the antenna's band-pass
characteristics are optimized to make it possible to tune into a
distinct station signal. The antenna has a built-in tuning circuit and
impedance matching circuit. Utilizing the antenna simulation
technologies accumulated in Alps' high-frequency wave businesses has
optimized the link between the tuner module and antenna and enables
the tuner module to exhibit its full potential.
The installation of a tunable antenna dispenses with the need for
a conventional TV broadcast receiver's whip aerial, which would
protrude from the side of the set's product casing, and contributes to
keeping the device small and compact.
